  • The language of dance

Charles Sahuguet portrayed famous dancers of his era. Backstage in Parisian theatres, in studios as they trained, and in his studio where they sometimes danced, Sahuguet’s subjects included Janine Solane, Lycette Darsonval, Escudero, José Gréco, Antonio, Luisillo and the gifted Hindu dancers at the Musée Guimet.

« After Escudero explained to me how Flamenco and Hindu dancing were connected, I discovered the sacred Indian dancers at the Musée Guimet — men and women I can draw and which show me that visual art can be a language, and a precise one at that.»
